A Room with a View consists of two video projections shown in two adjacent rooms. The footage portrays the same landscape seen from an island outside Helsinki during different times: day and night. On one side there is the city, on another, the sea. The audio material consists of the environmental sounds of the two different time periods.
Playing with the cinematic idea of framing and of immersion in time and space, the installation parallels and investigates the borders between reality and illusion. By expanding the movement into multidimensional space the work emphasises both the active role of the viewer and of light in the perceptive moment. Through a horizontal, physical flow of images the perceived landscape slowly appears and disappears in 360° around the viewer, whose illusion is actively broken by the architecture of the room: the image portraying the landscape is only a reflection on the wall.
