Site-specific light installation
2025

Led-strip, electricity, silicone
Vallila Wooden house district, Helsinki
Photographs: Salla Salin, Mia Kivinen

The work depicts a narrow crack formed in rock due to geological forces. The darkness of the gap between the heavy rock masses that have separated from each other – but still repeat the same shape – is transformed into light. This site-specific work was located in a rock formation on Vanajantie in Helsinki. It was part of “possibly the smallest light art festival in the world”, The Smallestvallila, which took place in October in the historic Vallila Wooden house district. At the festival, small light art works were placed to blend into the environment without disturbing it. They could be seen, for example, in windows, courtyards and the interiors of local shops. The curators were Mia Kivinen and Stefan Aleksandar Jovanovski, other artists in the exhibition were: Merijn Bolink, Anne Roininen, Alexander Salvesen, Jere Suontausta, Terike Haapoja and Pasi Rauhala.
